[Update] Comment request: What’s the best vacuum sealer?

Extensive hands-on review coming soon!

Based on your email feedback from our first comment request, we decided to purchase the FoodSaver 3825. In fact, the reviews were so encouraging we decided not to order online and instead found an excellent price at Costco (saving $45). The set came with a number of accessories and starter bags, marinating bowl, and rolls. Our initial impressions are favorable, as we vacuumed 20lbs of chicken breasts into 1-2 lb portions. We discovered 11″ rolls on sale at BedBath&Beyond and purchased several rolls alongside a box of microwave steamer bags for vegetables.

The build quality is excellent, despite the many plastic parts (we were hoping to see more stainless throughout). The pump pulls strong and from our limited trials this weekend, we expect years of service from this device. We’re preparing to buy a couple hundred pounds of local corn-fed beef this spring, so this vacuum sealer will indeed be put through its paces.

We were also pleased to see that sharpie permanent markers took well to the bags for labeling the contents and date of purchase without any smearing. We’ll have a lot more to share in the coming weeks, but are happy with our purchase so far.

In-depth hands-on review coming very soon – stay tuned!
